How to Check the Oil Level in Your Car in 4 Easy Steps 

If you have a newer vehicle, it is possible that it’s equipped with an electronic oil monitor. If this is the case, you do not have to worry about checking the oil level manually. If your vehicle does not have an electronic oil monitor, follow these simple steps. 

1. Park the vehicle on level ground and allow the engine to fully cool. 
2. Open the hood and find where the dipstick is located. 
3. Take the dipstick out and wipe off any oil. 
4. Re-insert the dipstick all the way back into its tube and take it out once more to see where the oil level falls. 

The dipstick will have markings on it that let you know the correct level for your particular make and model. If the oil level falls at the recommended level, you’re good to go! If it is a bit low, slowly add oil until you have the proper amount. Take a look at your owner’s manual to see what grade of oil your vehicle requires.
