Buying Car Insurance? Let’s Count The Ways.
Author Holman Insurance Services
Just like there are lots of kinds of insurance, there are lots of ways to buy insurance as well.
Here’s a look at the three most popular ways and the unique benefits of each.
Exclusive Carrier Agents
These are folks who work for the big name insurance companies. They are limited to selling only
their insurance company’s policies because they are the only policies they have access to.
They’re fully trained on it, so they have in-depth knowledge you’ll find about what that one
company offers, but not other carriers.
A restriction with exclusive agents is that if their one specific company doesn’t meet your
insurance needs, they can’t provide you an alternative solution. They also don’t have the ability
to compare competitive offerings year over year.
Mostly this is you acting as your own agent by using a web-based insurance finder to shop for
and compare insurance prices. You can setup your policy yourself and pay online, but you won’t
have the benefit of an agent to assist in comparing policies or filing a claim.
You may not get the best match here between your needs and the policy you get. Regulations
differ by states, and if there any mistakes or misgivings with your policy, the fault lies on you.
With independent agents you have both options and opportunities. They can help you find the
best rates and build the best policies. They work with, not for, many different carriers, meaning
they can objectively find the best policy or combination of policies to fit your specific needs.
Holman Advantage: As in independent agent, we have several insurance companies we partner
with so our focus is on serving our customers, not selling a single company’s products.
How we can help
Our specialists can help you assess your insurance needs, find a company or combination that
offers the coverages you need, and work out a policy that fits you financially.
